Wildlife trade a threat to world?

Ban on Wildlife Trade to stop pandemic!

WILDLIFE TRADE and PANDEMICS:

Wet market is the term we heard the most recent days. It is said synonymous along with covid 19.

A wet market is a marketplace selling fresh meat, fish, produce, and other perishable goods as distinguished from "dry markets" that sell durable goods such as fabric and electronics.

In some asian countries, wet markets are common and meat which are being sold there includes animals like porcupines, bat, pangolin, etc. One can buy live or processed meats in those wet markets.

Recent pandemics are said to have its orgin from these wet markets which acts as a place for the evolution of disease causing pathogens. These markets are also a threat to public health and have been the source of documented disease outbreaks in the past, including SARS. Researchers also believe COVID-19 most likely originated from a wet market in Wuhan, China, notorious for trading in wild animals.Yet wild animals were hunted down and traded illegally.

One can find Blood and flesh rotting everywhere in those markets. Exotic and traditionally farmed animals are mixed together in cramped cages and unsanitary enclosures, creating the perfect breeding ground for zoonotic diseases

One such animal is pangolin. Pangolins are scaly mammals that look similar to an anteater. This animal was said to be the staging post for the virus before it spread to humans. It is said to be an intermediary host between bats and human beings.

Miracle cure? Pangolin scales are used widely in Chinese traditional medicine and are said to treat an array of ailments. These animals are the most trafficked mammal in the world and are listed under Appendix I of CITES, making them vulnerable to extinction. Image: Roxanne Joseph

According to the International Union for Cnservation of Nature, " pangolins are the most illegally traded mammal around the world" However it can't be the conclusion for the outbreak. .
